It's finally summertime, which means less clothes and more skin. Trying to stay fit and eating healthy can be hard, especially for the busy lives of New Yorkers, but now things will be getting easier with the new health craze, dairy-free ice cream.

The New York Daily News reports, “They contain nutritious ingredients like whole grains, blueberries and nut milk, and while not exactly low in calories, they're light, refreshing and guilt-free.”

That’s correct; there is ice cream out there that is good for you! Many Americans enjoy ice cream and the main issue for a healthier ice cream is that consumers don’t want anything taken away from it. They want the cool, creamy, sweet loveliness--nothing less.

According to the New York Daily News, “‘People want their ice cream, but they don’t want to subtract anything from it,’ says Harry Balzer, vice president of the NPD Group, a consumer marketing research company that tracks how Americans eat. ‘The issue is no longer avoidance, but adding stuff to ice cream. It’s an addition, not subtraction.’”

Golosi, a newly opened restaurant in New York City, is taking the healthy route with new, interesting ice cream flavors. They add green tea and tofu to ice cream. One example flavor is called grano; made with 17 whole grains, black sesame seed, and green tea.

Adding fruit to ice cream, which seems to be such an obvious idea, is now becoming popular. For example, the Daily News reports that Stogo has ice cream with either a soy milk, coconut milk or hemp milk base, fruit flavors range from coconut-banana-mango to vanilla goji berry crunch to pomegranate chocolate chip.
